Journey to a Greener Pasture

Brain drain is not very new to us now a days, it has been happening for a century or so. Underdeveloped and rural places are the very ones who are affected by this trend. Many if not most of all educated and well off individuals choose to live and find a job in the city. In Philippines alone the number of overseas workers are almost 10 million.

These workers are often not to blame. There are many factors why brain drain is still existing now a days. Often professionals such as doctors and teachers do not want to work in a rural area because of underpaid salaries. It is not all the time people will do the act of service. They too have their own families to feed.  There are countries often are the developed countries give good salaries compared to third world countries. I do not believe that campaigns on decreasing the number of migrating productive individuals are being pushed through. Ceasing the brain drain trend from existence is not a very hard problem if the government and its people will unite.

Greener pastures are those areas you care the most
There are many ways to make this problem vanish. One is to increase the wages of teachers, nurses, health care workers and other professionals that are in the rural area. These mentioned professionals are very important in producing a productive citizen. Excellent teachers will eventually produce good students. Good nurses and doctors will be in charge of providing accessible and efficient therapeutic interventions to those who are having health needs and even to those who have health risks. Campaigning for wide spread patriotism can also be a solution to this problem. Sometimes we just have to be creative on how we can earn and help our community at the same time.

Budget is never a problem. Instead of fixing not so destroyed roads why not give that budget for compensation of rural services. Fixing national roads that cause no problem at all just to impress their constituents solve the problem. Dealing on political issues until the end of term of a government official and blaming each other is also not the solution of this problem. Resolving conflicts to war is definitely not a solution.

We do not need new nurses, new doctors, new pilots and most specially we do not need a new president and other government officials. We just need to be involved. As what my teacher said in our lecture one time America or other countries is not a greener environment. We just have to water our land to make ours become greener.
